NSFW The Exercise Thread

You know, there's lots of 'couch to 5k' plans on the interwebs & phone apps. You've got time to get ready for a reasonable time. Get reasonable shoes sooner than later. Even if you never run another 5k again, they'll be good for for feet for walking.
Yeah but it's not like I've just been sitting on my couch not exercising or anything so I'm not too worried. I've never been much of a runner, most of my cardio is done on an elliptical. A lot less stress on the joints. My test was Sunday morning. I told my friend who has been on me for a few months to do one of these if could run a half hour straight without having to stop and without anything falling off I would sign up and run. I passed the test and survived . So now I'll take it seriously and prepare for it.

Thanks! I'm not too concerned about my time. My main goal is to run it without having to stop. I have 2 months to get ready so I should be good.
Good shoes, comfy/cool clothes, HYDRATE, and find someone to run with... or lately, I've found podcasts really help me concentrate on a story rather than the pain of running. lol

if you're motivated.

The 'miles' worked for me too, but those programs got me off my ass to do it at least believing I had *some* direction. They're so rudimentary that after the first week, and seeing the slow buildup, importance of taking a couple days off each week, you realize what you need to do & can start doing it on your own.
If you aint motivated, not much is really gonna work.

idk. my ultra guy said a lot of peeps quit early because they don't see results. his best advice to me was 'slow down' and run more evenly. Then, start working in some 'sprints'(? i think that's what he called it) to improve speed.

I believe with a little guidance you'll see results faster and it will be easier to stay motivated.

side note: My Ultra guy did 100 this past weekend. Trail. in 20 hrs. I think I saw a comment about 15k of climbing? Unbelievable.

IME, most people quit because they're lazy, and it fucking sucks.
