That seems like it would create a hard crash, not something where the OS is still available.
nope, memtest can pick up "soft errors" too. read that previous thread i linked. Two different people were having memory instability issues.
Ensure you have set the ram voltage to what it says on the ram package, not what the bios defaults to.

Yeah, the whole thing stops working.

edit: The error I see in syslog is GPU hang. I forgot to disable tone mapping until right now, could that be it?

I'm still transcoding to nvme, so unlikely to be RAM. Seems more than a few people are having this issue (although mine isn't exactly the same).
[6.9.x - 6.11.x] intel i915 module causing system hangs with no report in syslog (not alder lake)
Since the 5.x kernel based releases many users have been reporting system hangs every few days once the i915 module is loaded. With reports from a few users detailed in the thread below we have worked out that the issue is caused by the i915 module and is a persistent issue with both the 6.9.x re...
I'm going to go ahead and let the parity check finish, then let it sit for at least another day, before I attempt anything else.

I was going to swap a 500GB M2 SSD for the server's existing boot drive (a very old 250GB ATA SSD), but I ordered the wrong adapter. Instead of a mini-PCIe to M2 adapter, they sent me an M2 to mini-PCIe adapter. LOL.
