How old is too old to have babby?

Us too. We are hoping the kids will be long gone when we reach 50. Plenty of time to get out while you still can.

many say they would rather have the time while they are young and healthy but I'd like to have it when I am pretty much done and feel set/accomplished with career and family

like isn't an end of the day drink better than starting the day that way? :D

That's how we saw it too. We want to wind our days down relaxing and not having to deal with kids of our own. We can't retire to a sailboat if we have kids at home.

But that doesn't take into consideration that people's timetables don't always work out the way that they wish.

What if you don't meet the one until later in life? :p [presuming that you want to prescribe to those societal mores about marriage before babies]

no. You must reproduce now, or never. No waiting for love and marriage and stuff. You've got three years before you expire grace, youd better lock that shit down and stop popping out the kids or else you're irresponsible and terrible and awful.

Im already irresponsible and terrible and awful because im old and stuff. We're turrible people.

I had kids when I was 24, 33 and 37 or something, tardwife was 10 years younger, although the one I had when I was 24 wasn't, in fairness, with her. I think, in retrospect, 24 was already too old, I shouldn't have had any of them. Kids are OK at 2 through 6. before and after that they're a mistake.

I'm 37 and I had a kid at 36 and I intend to have one at 38. I think I'm not too old. I think this is actually a terrible conversation with a lot of prejudice. Having kids is risky. Raising kids is even more challenging. Paying for kids is challenging. I think someone in their 30's is likely more financially stable but the risks of birth defects go up a little I guess. When it comes down to it it's all a crap shoot. Start and stop having kids when it is right for you.

1) How is it a terrible conversation? It's a realistic conversation. You had kids above the age my gf and many of her coworkers will go, but that's not a bad thing, that's mainly because they work with kids with developmental disorders and don't want to have to do that for life.
2) The risk for birth defects is not a "little amount" over 35, above 40 it is huge jump.

How common is Down syndrome?
It occurs in about one of every 800 births. About 2,000 children with Down syndrome are born each year in the United States.
Who is at risk of having a baby with Down syndrome?
Down syndrome can affect people from any ethnic group. A couple's likelihood of having a baby with Down syndrome increases as the woman gets older. For example, when a woman is 35, Down syndrome occurs in about one of every 200 births. By age 40, Down syndrome occurs in almost one in 100 births. Researchers think older eggs (a woman carries all of her eggs from birth) may have problems sorting out the correct number of chromosomes.

sooo... 1%. Turn that around and it doesnt sound so bad. Theres a 99% chance your kid will be fine at 40.

You MUST be!! Your beeday is July 9th. So, 1 + 1 = 2 and 7. Plus 7 months from now = 2 months preggo. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!

The stats my doctor gave me were different. They told me women over 35 have a 1 in 400 chance of having a baby with Down Syndrome. Also, they informed me there are things you can do to better those odds. They are simple things like taking prenatal vitamins and eating right and being at a healthy weight prior to conceiving and working with your doctor prior to conceiving to address any health concerns you may have. Doing those things can make your odds a lot better. They say one of the reasons the risks are so much higher is because in the past, women over the age of 35 were not planning to have children and conceived by accident and weren't doing things in the early months of pregnancy to take care of themselves. While older eggs being chromosomally (I made this word up) confused, there's no conclusive research about any of it.

I think it's a terrible conversation because of judgmental and self righteous people who like to tell you that what you are doing is wrong. I think the decision to have a baby should be in between a couple and possibly their healthcare provider. Then again, a lot of people told me how risky it would be for me to get pregnant and carry a baby and how there was no way to know what would happen to the baby, but I now have a healthy, happy little toddler causing chaos in my house. You never know.
