Halp Help me pork my next dog

To be fair you can find Presas Canarios at general rescues. Unfortunately the common problem with these type of dogs is that the type of people that originally take them in are assholes that mistreat them. I would love to take one of those dogs in and rehabilitate them, but not around my child.

You also run the issue of not being guaranteed to find them at general rescues. If you wanted a greyhound, there's rescue after rescue you could use to get one.

Did you get bit by a dog as a kid? Did you live?

Really? I got attacked by a couple of Rottweilers when I was little, but that doesn't mean I hate all dogs. Once a dog nearly bit my thumb off, but that too doesn't deter me. Most dogs are awesome companions.

It's a personal thing. Not everyone can adjust back to being comfortable around dogs after being attacked by one. I'm still not completely OK around German Shepards since I was badly bitten when I was 4. I have been bitten by other dogs, Pit Bull Terrier, Labrador, Doberman, Rottweiler, and Jack Russel, but I'm OK with those dogs now though.

how on earth did you manage to get bitten by that many different types of dog?

I was bitten in the face by a cocked spaniel and <dramatic pause> almost had my leg chewed thru by a Schnauzer.

They weren't my dogs tho... they were probably protecting something and I was bothering it.

Constantly being around dogs. Pretty much everyone my family or I knew when I was a kid had a dog, and every time we would go over to their place, I would spend the whole time playing in the backyard with the dogs.

My own Labrador bit me in the face. Top and bottom teeth either side of my eye. Luckily I only suffered lacerations and my eye was fine.

I grew up around scads of dogs and was somehow never bitten. I was nipped once by my own shepherd right after we got her from the pound when I was around 7 though. after that she was my girl until she died.about 10 years later.

dogs are sort of reverse kosher, they don't eat jews.

Not everyone can bring out the same reaction in a dog.

A dog can be fine with one stranger and completely aggressive with the next stranger.

i disagree...I believe its the over protective parent bubble we put kids in these days. Is a dog, they are very unlikely to hurt their pack unless they are being mistreated.

I'm a bit offended that Liam thinks rescue dogs are more likely to be unpredictable thanzd purebreds...cough inbreds.

Recent story. Family pit bull (they have 2). Not rescue dogs. Raised both since puphood.

All accounts indicate they were a good couple, and cared well for the dogs. Including giving them free range in a fenced in yard.

The male dog attacked and killed the pregnant mother. The female pit took no part in the attack.

Rescue or not, a dog will attack it's owners if it is a breed that genetically is known for aggressive traits. Not all of them, but there are, as seen here, examples of exactly what you fear from a rescue occurring in non rescue dogs.

Nothing wrong with pure breds.

The pounds are full of mixed mutts, it's thier owners who can't be bothered to spay or nueter that cause the over population problem and somehow people get mad at pure bred owners? Don't get it.
