Ontopic String's and Adi's gear & pedal thread

The height thing is nice for people who change string gauges a lot - the strings are always at the same height. Sonically I think a brass nut that is taken down as low as possible without the open string clanging the first fret sounds virtually the same. Hey, let's talk the Buzz Feiten system.

Or the Ernie Ball compensated nut.

I must have had some glue left over in the nut slot cause my G string was much lower than the rest. I simply folded a piece of paper a couple of times cut it to size and slipped it under the nut. Paper works good cause it's basically wood and it's thin enough to be precise with the height.

Another good shim material for nuts is pop/beer can aluminum.

maybe file off all the sharp edges?
may be a dumb idea

Maybe, but then you’ve open metal with no chrome plating.

If I had a Ric again, I’d likely leave the cover on and deal with it.

You really aren’t missing anything not playing over the pup anyhoo, but until it’s removed, you’ll question it.

Do it! It’s not like having gender reassignment surgery or anything.
