I've played Dunk Hunt before.

In Dunk [sic] Hunt the duck moves across a plane projected on the screen. In reality [what is reality : O] the duck can move along at compounded angles to you and guns dont shoot exactly straight and shotguns disperse so depending on the speed of the duck, its location, and its movement relative to your position have to be taken into consideration along with the operational mechanics of the weapon you are using...

There is no least safe way. Safe is relative to the people with access to it. You shouldnt even have it in your hands confronting someone unless it's ready to go, you dont use guns to scare people, you use them to shoot people.
