That's controversial as fuck. DNA'ing a big block of people against their will. And you're right that it's the kid's muling the adults. 1 kid can claim 2 parents.
You must not have read the article - 18 fake families caught in a 3 day run of the program. $5.2 million is a drop in the bucket - that would cover maybe 200 child abuse cases when you count in police and Court costs. I think the policy sucks from a privacy standpoint but will stop a lot of current and future crimes due to the large body of DNA that will be grabbed.$5.2 million could buy a lot of the hygiene items for which they claim to lack funding and to which those in the camps are entitled regardless of familial relation but sure, I guess wasting it on *just securing the contract* to DNA test people against their will to find a relatively small number of infractions is fine, too.
FUck-n-a!!you know who wins here?
The people that sell the dna testing kits to the government.

FIFYI'm sure the relatively small number of kids who get raped, beaten and sold into sex trafficking will sleep soundly know the others have quality toothbrushes.
Why either/or?
Why not both?
Sounds about right - you can get DNA testing for paternity done for about $150 and your numbers would indicate $100/test. COstco pricing 'Murica. The 5.2 mil. was for I think 50,000 kits but yes it's one of those open-ended milk it for all its worth brother in-law contracts.
I'm sure the relatively small number of kids who get fucking kidnapped will sleep soundly knowing the others have quality toothbrushes.

you're both making an awful lot of assumptions about the reasons why someone might identify a minor with them as family but not share DNAFIFY

I realize some of those kids might be with nice people who took them in. Screwing up their sweet deal sucks. But the raw statistic that 1 in 10 children in USA are sexually abused before age 18 and 20% of those before age 8 gives me great pause. I had to cliff note children's testimony after that crap at my last job - my brain hurts just remembering it. Yeah, I'd rather err on the side of caution if adults lie about a kid being their flesh & blood "child". The crush of people at the border would seemingly be a pedophil's dream.you're both making an awful lot of assumptions about the reasons why someone might identify a minor with them as family but not share DNA
the other 66 could and likely does also contain the set of folks they tested and for whom there was a familial match. the set of 80-something is just the ones they identified as suspicious.I'm thinking it's the other 66 that turned out to be step kids, adopted, etc. But yes the claim is from ICE and you and I share a natural distrust of cops.
At the same time it has to be happening to some degree. It's just another version of what smugglers and traffickers have been doing since forever.
either way children are being separated, they're often not being reunited, they're not necessarily being released to other family members, and they're still being warehoused in appalling numbers and sickening conditions, freezing and malnourished, punished with what few beds they have being taken away for losing the one lice comb they all share, so what is the actual benefit? & if they're going to be deported back because they don't have a family link here in the states, to whom "back home" are they released?I realize some of those kids might be with nice people who took them in. Sorry, but spending $100 on each suspect family, one time, is not going to fix their living conditions.either way children are being separated, they're often not being reunited, they're not necessarily being released to other family members, and they're still being warehoused in appalling numbers and sickening conditions, freezing and malnourished, punished with what few beds they have being taken away for losing the one lice comb they all share, so what is the actual benefit? & if they're going to be deported back because they don't have a family link here in the states, to whom "back home" are they released?
to be clear, I absolutely do not want anyone to be victimized by human trafficking,Sorry, but spending $100 on each suspect family, one time, is not going to fix their living conditions.
The actual benefit? One less depravity some of them will have to endure. But how do you feel about the DNA testing itself?
How about for the ones that do have legit, legal status family here (and the family is cool with it), send them to live with them?
Do it like parolees. Ankle monitor, check in with the local office once a month, apply for work permit, look for work, make your court hearings, etc. and they can live there and wait out the legal process. Family can feed and house them.
If they skip out on court appearances, commit crimes, walk off or whatever, then tag them as fugitive and it's back to jail or deported.
That would at least get some of them out of the jails, into more amicable surroundings, with incentive to self-police and stay on the right side of the law.
it is my understanding that no, they do not accept donation of hygiene products, though I have been trying to find out more in regards to that. in many cases, they're taking items away from them. the shortage of supplies is literally by design - it is 100% intentional and we've already seen the government arguing in justification of their depriving them of these items. For those that don't surely there must be some advocacy groups and charities that would like to help out.
Dormitory style living, contracts with motels. Maybe sponsor somebody to become a citizen and take them in? Again with the ankle monitor and reporting, etc.
Do these immigrant jails take donations? If you sent them a case of baby formula or a box of diapers would they accept it? They certainly should. Anybody could drop a package in the mail now and then to help out.
bold assumption that I'm not or haven't been doing what I can to help just because I don't post about every donation to RAICES or whatever on here, & again accusing me of "screaming nazi" w/ literally nothing to back it up. go for the twofer next and call me hystericalThe government's end of this would be to let this stuff happen and not make it a maze of bureaucratic bullshit to get it done (ya I know, good luck with that).
Any of that kind of stuff and more would at least help alleviate the situation. Get more people out of the jails and make life a little better for the ones that are in there.
In other words put your money where your mouth is and actually do something to help instead of just screaming nazi while actually doing nothing. Hell even I'd drop a package of clean underwear in the mail now and then.
HORMONAL!!(in the spirit of BURNT!)This is what they used to do in most cases before Trump's family separation policy; most DID show up for their court appearances and we did not have them living in the conditions of this current humanitarian crisis.

So what we have right now is sort of like that, except ICE is waiting outside the courtroom, INS meeting, church service, and/or immigration lawyer meeting, to Extraordinary Rendition people as they emerge, regardless of their immigration status. How about for the ones that do have legit, legal status family here (and the family is cool with it), send them to live with them?
