it says something about the state of things that i automatically assume the officer was corrupt and was in some scandal that he'd rather off himself than deal with.

About the glass panels on parliament hill :

So the case of our little girl cop here is in the hands of the jury. Options are -

Murder - 5 to 99 years
Manslaughter - 2 to 20 years
Not Guilty

The cops were stacking the deck for her as much as they could, including a Texas Ranger claiming he didn't think charges should've been filed at all, and a former Dallas police chief claiming something called "involuntary inattention", meaning people can miss obvious things when they're hyperfocused on something else.

In this cops case that would've been sexting her partner cop/boyfriend/side piece, while she drove up a floor too high, walked past 16 doors all labeled as not her floor, never noticed the red doormat outside that's not hers, never backed up or thought wtf when the door wasn't locked/ajar, and shot a guy to death in his own apartment claiming she thought it was hers.

Manslaughter, 16 years, 10 year minimum. If I was a gambling man.

Guilty - can't escape that, got a dead brother.
Murder - nah, she's too dumb to have planned it in any fashion. Unless she was a paid hit and deserves an Oscar for Best Weeping Shooter in a Cop drama.

Sounds fair. Murder here requires proving intent. Don't know how far in advance you need the intent, like the second you decided to pull the trigger or sometime before that.

Manslaughter doesn't require intent but requires "reckless conduct" which she most certainly had.

You get eligible for parole here after serving half the sentence, then it could take a year or so of attending various classes and waiting for the bureaucracy to move slow before you finally get out.

In other words they'd have to give her the full 20 if they wanted to make sure she was physically locked away, completely removed from society for 10.

So you can all unclench your bum cheeks, the cop is getting her comeuppance
Unless the judge flubs the sentencing natch
