I'm not sure I follow your logic here. If you have to spend $10,000 in the 1st three months, but it has to be in one calendar year, wouldn't it make more sense to sign up for the cards in January? If someone signs up now, aren't they forfeiting an entire month of spending, ie 1/3 of the time they would have to spend that $10,000?
Is there some indication this promotion will be canceled by then?
Also note, the Southwest miles need to be earned in a single calendar year. So sign up for them now, but do not start using the cards until January! That way all the miles will count towards the 110,000 mile minimum to be awarded a free companion pass.
