Cool.

Didn't know yours was an automatic.
Has your shift mechanism broke yet or were they built better in those years?

Our 96 & 98 both broke in the same spot.
Rotating piece that has the shift lever attached at the top and linkage cable at the bottom is made out of cheap potted metal or something like it.
Bolts that hold the linkage cable on don't have any lock washers or loctite on them. Work their way loose over the years. Doesn't take much. Not enough to notice obvious slop in the shift lever but enough to put a little odd force on that potted metal and start a crack going in the bolt holes.

Simply making sure they're tight would prevent it but who the hell checks that. Small torx head bolts.

My mechanic getting into a magazine yet again with one of this projects.

He's got a habit of building a kickass Westfalia, getting it featured in a magazine, getting offered a bunch of money for it and selling it to fund the next project... but he's had the DoKa for as long as I've known him and I can't see him parting with it.

Time to get new tires. I think I'm gonna go back down closer to stock diameter.
Was 235/75r15 (so 721 rotations per mile)
Now at 275/55r18 (around 690 rpm?)

295/45r18 is 729 rpm, 255/55r18 is 717. More options in the 255 width, but I worry the stretch will throw off the rpms.
