Ask a Mormon anything.

So Mormons just have a lottery to proclaim their next prophet?

Oddly enough my best friend is a Mormon, oh how badly I want to tease her.

Um no, not even close. It's on a Seniority basis. If our current prophet were to die, I could tell you exactly who the next one would be.

Wow so that's how god picks his prophets on a seniority level......Interesting...

What is the seniority based on?? How many wives they have?

Are there any bylaws stating what positions women can and cannot hold? How does that work with civil liberties?

Do you have to clean your special underwear in a special ritualistic way, different than regular laundry?

Divine revelation. (No Mormon's practice polygamy, it's against the law and we follow the laws). We have a prophet, 2 counselors, then a Quorom of Twelve Apsotles. When an apostle dies, they pray about who should be the next one. When the Prophet dies, the person that has been an apostle the longest is the next one.

Women don't hold the priesthood, therefore, we can't have callings in the church that require the priesthood. We will never have a woman prophet.

Do you live on a compound like in Big Love?

Yes, and we aren't allowed to leave, ever.

Do you have to clean your special underwear in a special ritualistic way, different than regular laundry?

Nope, I throw them in a pile of white laundry, then throw that load in the washer and add soap.

Is Big Love an accurate portrayal of Mormons?

No. Big love is about an offshoot religion that practices polygamy and isn't about Mormons or anything we practice or believe whatsover. The only similarity it has is that it is filmed in Salt Lake where there are lots of Mormons.

No it's clearly about Mormons, a recent episode had them traveling to the place where the thought Bob Smith, John Smith, Joe Smith or whoever wrote the Book of Mormon, plus they reference LDS a lot.

Wow... you guys tithe don't you...

and people complain about taxes?

When's the last time a church paved a fucking highway.

No, the church itself doesn't pay taxes. Not the congregation. Just like any other religious organization. No property tax on the land used, no income tax on the preachers. No gift tax for donations.

Edit: No sales tax on church supplies.

Yes we tithe. And I don't complain about taxes, taxes are very useful and necessary to run a country. I don't like over taxation and the blatant waste of tax payers money. If they went to good things, I'd be perfectly fine with it.

That's because everyone automatically connects polygamy and Mormon's together, even though we have practiced it as a religion since the late 1800's. I can assure you, the main family and the polygamist sects in the show are not Mormon nor do they have anything to do with what we believe or how we act.

What are your feelings about the growing epidemic of homosexual Mormons?

Why would I feel differently about them then I do about non mormon homosexuals? I may not agree with their actions, but I'm not going to judge or treat them any differently then I do anyone else. They are free to make their own choices and those choices don't make them any less of a person.
