wtf...someone just got shot in our building

It is true that anything can be used as a weapon in the wrong hands. IMO I can defend myself to some extent bare handed against someone with scissors. With a gun I am dead, there is no chance.

Did Neo just sit down and say "I have no chance?" No, he bent over backwards and did the wavey arms thing. I think your problem is a lack of self confidence, not projectile velocity.

Alright guys, very interesting sides but I am going home now to shove something smug into my ass. Enjoy your weekend, I might be on but if not, see yall Monday!

Hey Dysfunc,
Please keep up your pointless attacks it will get you closer to the door which in turn will make me happy. Have a good weekend Dysfunc, hope yours is filled with joy

You've seen too many movies. Idiots are idiots no matter what they are holding. Shooting a gun is not any more easy than stabbing someone. It's not the wand, it's the magician eh?

Just because you feel competent unarmed doesnt meant you are. Someone with scissors [as per example] who has never tried to kill someone with them is just as effective as someone with a gun who has never used one. It's not some magical device that turns you into an unstoppable killer.

Chances are you are just as dead whether I decide to cap ya or curbstomp ya :p

Not true at all. A bladed weapon is just as (if not more so) deadly than a gun. We're talking wounds that go to the bone and can be from several inches to up to a foot in length, slicing muscle, veins, arteries, and organs to ribbons.

A bladed instrument (of any kind) is just as much a weapon as any firearm, and you are fooling yourself if you believe you could defend against one (even in the hands of someone totally untrained) because you've seen a few movies or taken a Karate class or two.

there are no tests to own firearms...you simply get a permit...that in and of itself is an incredibly flawed way to grant people the right and ability to take life...this means there are a lot of people with guns out there that really shouldn't have them

cops are a completely different issue and people don't buy guns to defend themselves from cops

Wait, owning a gun doesn't give you the right or ability to take a life. Someone trying to kill you gives you the right to take a life, and just being alive gives you the ability. We have thumbs, so it's easy. If someone comes up behind you and taps you on the shoulder and you turn around and blow them away, you're pretty much fucked. You still need a reason.

Guns are just a judicial tool, nothing more. If you aren't willing to protect yourself I can't change your mind, nor do I want to. That's you, and I support that. Personally I'd rather walk out of my house with a gun down the back of my pants than give someone else veto power over my vitality. And that's all it comes down to. Fists, gun, same thing. If I had to I'd use my teeth to protect my family. A gun just makes the defense quicker, and in that situation time is everything.

Depends on where you live. Again.

GA, you dont need a permit to buy any firearm. Just a background check. You need a permit to CCW though.

This is all semantics though. Anyone can kill anyone else at any time so you arent granting anyone any right or ability they didnt have before. Hence why certain things are 'rights' not privileges. They cant be taken away or granted. Firearms are just tools.

It is not flawed when we have a Constitutional right to own 'arms'. You basically have a core fear of guns. I grew up with them... I see them as simply a tool that decent people have. And that tool is one that they can use if some drug crazed psycho kicks down their door in the middle of the night. I believe that it is a supreme moral obligation to protect my family. I also believe that no other person has the right to decide if I am worthy of fulfilling that obligation.

Oh, I think in the movie 'Departed' that Jack Nicholson says something like, "when you're staring down the barrel of a 45, does it really matter whether it's a cop or a crook?"

obviously you aren't given the right to take a life but you do now have the ability if you have a gun...I was talking about the right to bare

You have the ability to give a life, too. If someone is trying to kill someone else, and I kill the attempted murderer, the victim or victims are now free from harm. Assuming the attacker wasn't able to inject a fast-acting neurotoxin into their blood stream, of course.

I HATE when that happens

that would seriously piss me the fuck off if I knew a coworker was bringing a gun into work with him

do you work in a post office? rambo fantasies? why would you do that? you could just as easily leave it in the car

if it wasn't against the law or against the rules, why would it piss you off?

why would he do that? I think a situation like this is exactly why.

Don't get all pissy WAW, you know I think of you as a friend. However you shouldn't have compared me to the run-of-the-mill stereotypical gun owner either. You know that is not accurate.

actually his comparison wasn't even to a run of the mill gun owner. run of the mill gun owners are like you and I, folks that understand the responsibility inherent in carrying and are safer with them than without. he compared you to the run of the mill thug that would buy a stolen gun and carry it in his waistband because someone scuffed his jordans at school
