One of my most favoritest games ever
Actually, "The Metal Age" was better, but I them both 4 ever
A couple others that are of equal awesomeness were Deus Ex and System Shock 2. All these games broke the mold and went way beyond what was expected.
You guys can buy mine on the 17th. Bidding starts at $1500, GO!

I still don't have a PS2 yet, I'm only waiting for the PS3 so that I can get a PS2 for $39.95 brandy new
The first two Thief games blew that genre out of the water. I had never been scared playing a video game before, and really haven't been since. The undead levels, sneaking, and then fleeing like mad after being discovered were just amazing. Most of the unreal atmosphere resulted from depending on sound to play the game. You really had to stop, listen, hide, listen, move, listen...god I loved those games. They better rerelease them soon, because #1 doesn't work on my computer anymore. My machine is too 'modern'.
Half Life came out at the same time as Thief, and I shelved it for about a month because I couldn't stop sneaking through shadows. And that game was pretty good too.
You do understand that in its 20 year history, Famitsu has only issued 6 perfect score games. Two of those games have been Zelda games. Ocarina of Time was ranked as the first "perfect game" from Famitsu, IGN, and Gamespot and took perfect scores from almost every other person to review it. As of October 1, 2006, Ocarina of Time still maintains the top rated game of all time spot with a cumulative game rating average of 97.8%. The Zelda series maintains the record for highest ranking series with an lifetime average score of 92% over all Nintendo versions (we don't talk about the CD-i games). These facts in light, this means this is the weakest troll I've ever seen you attempt.
The opinions of people I dont care about. That'll convince me. Soul Calibur for dreamcast is the second highest ranked game of all time and no one even remembers it.
Zelda on SNES was good, Zelda on N64 was good. I got both of them. Once you play it though they are all essentially the same: solve some 3rd grade puzzles, kill the bad guy, and rescue the princess AND HACK TONS OF SHRUBBERY. Im sorry but I can do half of those things in real life. Making it cartoony and interactive adds nothing. It's just an opinion.
Since I want to keep this small (platform RPGs) compare/contrast with FFVII. Still probably the darkest/best console RPG ever. Not as cartoony, more mature plot line. Of course all the FF games are rather cinematic so that kills replay but shit with 70+ hours of play doing everything there isnt much point in going through it again.
I dont even play games anymore. Fucking childish.
Nobody even remembers Soul Caliber?
One slight clairification : Twilight Princess will be released for the GC on Dec. 11. Anyone who doesn't want to upgrade to a Wii can still have the game before Christmas and supposedly the only thing they won't have is a 16:9 aspect ratio option. So no one is getting completely screwed on that one.I'm not sure how to feel on the comment that nobody remembers Soul Caliber. I was actually thinking of playing it over the weekend. I do believe that game was the reason I bought a Dreamcast. Resident Evil was a good distraction there, too.
As for the console wars. I swear, this is the worst time to be interested in consoles I've ever known. Sony is too busy being either desperate or just fucking clueless to treat their fans well. Microsoft is... well, Microsoft. And Nintendo is banking on rabid fanboys to be completely blind to just how they plan on fucking everyone over.
Now, all that said, the games couldn't look better. I do think Nintendo are bastards for releasing Twilight Princess for the wii. That would be about like if Square announced FFXII was going to be a PS3 launch title. While it would probably be amazing as is, it completely fucks over all the fans that have been waiting for it for so long. Other than all of that, though, all of the systems are looking rather nice. The PS2 and DS are looking to have some of the best games coming out soon, though. The wii is the most attractive new system coming out due to price alone. Though, it is looking like those that have purchased a 360 have the nice position of knowing they have a good system that is not going anywhere. (Unlike I felt when I had the dreamcast. A good system that was clearly going to die.)
Anyway, I'd say more, but I do need to get some work done this morning.
I was only pointing out that people who don't want to get pressured into upgrading don't have to. So I wouldn't term those people as getting completely screwed. Is it somewhat unfair? Yeah, I'm not going to argue that. But releasing on the last gen and current gen platforms to accomodate the most of the customer base is something I don't see Sony or Microsoft ever doing. How is that supposed to make people feel better? All that means is that if you don't want to pay 300ish bucks for a new controller to play it, you have to wait a month. Nevermind that if the game really was developed with GC controls in mind, than the Wii version is going to have gimmick controls and it could have been released earlier without developing these controls. Conversely, if it was done with Wii in mind, then how are the same areas going to control for the GC?
Or is it simply that they are having to take time to reverse all of the maps and textures for the GC version, now?
And how hard is it to have 16x9 support? And why is it that the same game on a next gen system doesn't at least have higher resolution support?
I guess America should feel grateful that they will at least have the chance to buy the game in stores. Unlike Japan which will have to order it straight from Nintendo if they want to play it.
