well, considering all the customers were indeed beta testers, since the whole system is in beta.... and also thats not a bug, its a programmed feature to prevent hardware damage.
Then this is an alpha product in a beta test.
It isnt a bug it is a fundamental problem in the design of the dish.

Satellite dishes have to sit in an unobstructed space to work. By design they have to have no shade on them.

I cure painted pieces by leaving them in my yard on a black piece of MDF. Within an hour on most sunny days they are hot enough I can't touch them. Thats in the range of 50-60C

Whoever approved the design spec for these dishes needs to hand in their card.

It’s normal for the Southwest. Hot June’s usher in monsoon so it’s actually a good thing. Mild junes delay them and we end up with the no rain during monsoon season madness of the past two years and we desperately need the rain this time.
I get all of that - but still, they are setting daily records. Weird weather everywhere - we are going to have a chilly next Tuesday(low 60s), after several days of 80+. Y'all be safe.

You def have to not be an idiot. Stay inside, drink lots of water. We have a couple days under 100 on the forecast next week. Might have to pull out jackets! 😂

I'm gonna be an idiot, going to Farmington tomorrow to run the Datsun in autocross. Gonna be 100+, and I'll be out in it. Got lots of water and a big fuckin' hat though.

It initiates a planned shutdown above 122. Likely because in their testing it either didn't work, or risked damaging things. Other than Muskrage, what's the problem?

I remembered my completely insightful thing I was going to post while drunk the other night.

My Gmail account is now 70% full after 16 years of use. Got an email through the other day. Guess i better clear it up in the next 5 years.
I did this once awhile ago (purged like 200,000 emails). It took fucking HOURS and browser locked up during the process. I just left it go all night. This was a Gmail business account that I used for tech mailing lists.

It's a bad design, if it fails (even gracefully) in normal use like that.
I believe I read that the Dishy heater is always on (correct me if I am wrong), which I thought was really dumb that they couldn't include 1 or more thermistors to only turn the heater on if they got to like 40F or below. That's why there's almost always a consistent 200W draw. I haven't touched Dishy on a hot day to see how bad it gets, of course no where near the Death Valley temps SW USA is experiencing right now.

The problem is they should have made a better plan. I guess in a real extreme case you could bore a 10' deep hole and do a simple water-loop cooler.

Because its a fucking satellite dish
They sit in the damned sun all day and summers are only going to be getting hotter.

It isn't muskrage, its irritation that something was not designed for its planned operating conditions and is being pushed out as if it were, even in beta conditions

Clearly they knew about it. There are likely forces at play that forced their hand in making that decision for now. You fucking guys, I swear...

yeah, because NOBODY could foresee that an antenna sitting in the sun would get hot.

If it's a design limitation, then Starlink isn't an ISP.

Again, they knew about it. It's a beta test. I can think of 10,000 reason why they'd have to make due for now. Maybe a pandemic materials issue. Who knows? At the end of the day, they have paid engineers there who are likely at least as smart as you. The difference is they have all the information.
