Ontopic 2020 Eat Your Veggies - GARDEN THREAD

If you've grown Oyster mushrooms you should be able to ID those safely, I think. Maitake, Chicken of the Woods, Turkey Tail, Lion's Mane and puffballs when big enough are all super safe too. I picked a nice head sized puffball 2 summers ago. Picture bottom of this page.
For sure, I could definitely spot a wild oyster.

I've been reading about reishi bonsai, going to try and grow one.

The Reishi into like deer antler looking things? - yeah, that would be cool. Hey, shoot me a PM with an address and I'll send you a 5 lb of hericium(Lion's Man) spawn on wood in a filter bag. Just on general principle. I'm in Michigan so no big deal and have to ship stuff every other day so there's that.

Yep, you change growing conditions to encourage/discourage growth and color changes. It seems fairly involved/precise so I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.

 I'll shoot you an address, thanks!

I have monitors for CO2, O2, humidity and temp., really helps to know where you are with the CO2. Without a monitor you'd be amazed how much CO2 the mushroom spawn produces, continually. That said, I have 4, 10 lb+. bags of Beech mushroom spawn in the back of my SUV, in a clear contractor's bag, in the garage. It's about 50f, perfect temp for them to finally fucking pin. I'm not going anywhere. I'm spawning-in-place.

I'm trying to figure out how I want to monitor my plant and fungi grow, seems like an Arduino PLC would be pretty easy but then I troll automation direct and see they sell some off the rack PLCs that come with software and IO for about $200. Not sure if it would be easier to start with a PLC or plain Arduino.

I went very analog with the whole thing - I just use the monitor to watch my levels, not actually control them. I have two identical timers, one is hooked to two small HEPA air filters, one at each end of my mushroom grow. One filters incoming air, the other filters the outgoing. SO, every 3 hours they run for 11 minutes, then the second timer kicks on an ultrasonic mister with a computer fan blowing across it for 11 minutes. CO2 stays below 1000ppm, humidity stays at 94% except for that 11 minutes of fresh air. 8X a day. It works for me. I had a much bigger setup but eventually, it became more of a chore than I wanted. :fly: I'm just an old, lazy bass player,

I'm gone enough where I'd like to be able to check on things remotely. Ideally there would be some sort of webcam too

kid helped repair a busted down section of fence. We have garden border integrity again!

Went to Sams yesterday since they had bread flour in stock again and picked up a new deep cycle marine/RV battery. The two batteries we have are old and total shit, don't hold a charge.

Now I can get the sensor powered up 24x7 and get to adding a fan to the vent.

Reran all the poly wire for the electric fence. Good as new!

Puts out between 6.5 and 7.5 Kv depending on where you test.

Plenty enough to zap a groundhogs ass. Seen it with my own eyes.

Deer are more entertaining though

We’ve got a .4 mile solar fence charger. So far no issues with the battery, probably because it comes inside every year and gets some sunlight.

ZAPPED!! :)
Good job! * I shot a bunny yesterday.

got all the direct sow stuff in. turnips, beets, cukes, varying herbs.

Cant get eggplant to germinate for the life of me. Not even with the heat mat. Thinking my seeds might not be good
