We've brewed a few of those clones.

edit: In fact, we've got somewhat of a riff on Pliny waiting to be moved into secondary right now.

So I think I'm going to start brewing this summer. Finally have room to do it, and I've been wanting to learn for a while. I've been reading the online version of the How To Brew... and I think I'll probably get the most recent version that goes into a little more detail, but I want to learn the ins and outs of it, experiment, figure out what I like and don't like, see if I can come up with something different. Possibly even grow my own hops.

Just do it. You can seriously get into the hobby for about $200 depending on what you already have on hand. Just start saving bottles. You'll need about 60 (to be safe) 12oz bottles, or less if you just do bombers which is my suggestion because it's less work.

edit: And if you mean, How To Brew by Palmer, well that shit is gospel. Church

I've had almost all of those beers.

Here is my alcoholism on display:

if you're going to brew your own beer, the general consensus from my beer brewing friends is that you do it for the experience. Not to produce an exceptional beer (because you wont), or to save money (because you wont).
Ah Ha! We've brewed many exceptional beers!
