I brew homebrew quite often. Most of the time I take the easy way out and just buy bagged wort ("festa brew" brand kit) and throw in the yeast. The resulting beer is no Trois Pistoles, but it's better than most miller/coors/etc mainstream stuff, and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than store-bought beer - of course it's $20+/dozen up here for beer in soviet canuckstan.

One of my co-workers is very seriously into it - he malts his own grain, selects hops and does the whole process, and he's made some really fucking awesome beer. He made a stout that's probably one of the best beer I've ever had. I picked up the Sam Calagione "extreme brewing" book, which goes over the process of making beer from scratch and it doesn't seem anywhere near as hard as the co-worker makes things out to be. I'll give it a try sometime.

New Belgium didn't have the distribution or production capabilities to support Florida, or so I'm told. They recently aligned with Cigar City Brewing Company to make it happen.

Makes me happy. It was one of my most favorite beers in Colorado.
While New Belgium may have teamed up with CCB on a whale or two. The reason they can sell beer in Florida is their second brewery located in Ashville N.C..

No, but I'm getting the hankering to give it a try. Something like this, i'd actually look into what i'd need to do to age it in a bourbon barrel.

I honestly would LOVE to do a bourbon barrel imperial chocolate stout.. Call it something like 'Duke's High Executioner' and make sure it has a 10 ABV or higher

You can get used bourbon barrels cheap enough
Tho, youd have to brew about 50 gallons of the beer to properly utilize it
Not that thats a bad thing...
