Ontopic Illegal Immigration, How Do We Deal With It?

According to data on the petitions submitted to the Department of State (DOS), there were about 4.4 million applicants (including spouses and minor children) who were on the waiting list as of November 1, 2014. The overwhelming majority were family-sponsored applicants and their immediate family members (4.3 million). About 91,000 were employment-sponsored applicants and their families.

It's a wonder that it hasn't occurred to you that there are people who actually support the current immigration policies and believe that we should be a charitable and open border nation.
Those people are naive. It's also easy for me and you too have optimistic opinions on this because it's not in our back yard. Your opinion might change if you lived in Arizona.

An Arizona opinion: the biggest issues I see are how much taxpayer money it costs to provide services and the high kidnapping rate we have here. Our public schools kinda suck as well partly because no funding and I'm guessing the fact that a large majority of our students are esl plays a part, but Arizona has made it easy for people to start charter schools. So while I would love to be able to be happy sending my kids to public school because I'm not okay with that I have an abundance of charter schools to choose from and we found what we hope is a good fit and I have been pleased with my kids education so far.

I think we should make it easier for people to come here legally to help offset the number that have no choice but illegally. Then they'd pay taxes and contribute and be full members of society instead of transient. Wouldn't solve all the problems but I think it would help. What to still do about those that are illegal I don't know. Obviously if a criminal, they should be dealt with as such, if not, see the above on making it possible for them to get legal status.

Your public schools kinda suck for reasons other than ESL, and "large majority" apparently means something different to you than it does to most, because < 10% of your enrolled students in Arizona are ESL.

edit: sorry, ESL and school rankings are kinda hot button issues for me, since I have kids that age, and have seen how the schools rank themselves.

Yeah...I don't think your state's education problems stem from esl. Fairfax County, VA has one of the finest public education systems in the country and 30% of their students are foreign born. 14% need esl services. That's like 2 1/2 times the national average.

I should have specified it depends on location. Around here we could have 6 of our 7 public elementaries in the district esl. We don't, but we could. Other areas of the state aren't as heavily sided. I know it's other reasons too. Arizona public education is horribly broken and no one seems to be doing anything to fix it. But as I stated above its not really a problem as we have charter schools for those that want to do something different. (Source: a member of the school board here locally on the number of esl).

The fact of the matter is a huge portion of our labor workforce is illegal and while people are up in arms about it they aren't going to be willing to fill in those positions if we didn't have the illegals to work them. We do vast amounts of agriculture and it would affect many people to just send them all home and tell the farmers to find others to fill the jobs. Wages would be too low, people wouldn't want them anyway, prices of food would go up which would infuriate everyone. You just can't have it both ways and I think that's what people fail to see.

we have a town just about 20 minutes from here that was completely over run with mexican workers because of a factory. Maybe if they didn't know there is good work to be had that most americans are too lazy to do themselves it wouldn't be such a draw. but instead people want more money per hour for flipping burgers than some of our armed forces even receive. the collective problem is more than just immigrants...there are other factors.

I do agree it should be easier to become a citizen.

and the high kidnapping rate we have here.

The fuck. Most of us live in areas where we don't have a "kidnapping rate" period. It's not even in the horizon... maybe an odd case here and there but nothing statistically significant enough to have a rate. That seems like a major issue if it's common place in az.

Stop.
You increase minimum wage and pay for everyone will increase.
Have a better argument
please don't tell me what to do. I am allowed to have an opinion. I just think we should be more concerned about a little bit more important of jobs than those in fast food places.

not sure if srs
The lack of a living wage causes the govt to pay stupid amounts of money to people that they shouldn't have to.
Create a living wage and two things will happen. The cost of those programs will drop, and every Republican will start screaming about the military getting paid as much as a burger flipper and their wages will increase using those same tax dollars that paid for the aid programs..

You are on a public forum. People are gonna say shit you don't like. Suck it up, buttercup.

The military is less than 1% of the population in this country. They also get housing, food, and medical paid for.
There are better targets for concern.
