What a bunch of BS

I doubt the 'illegals' were protesting, they were too busy working

More than likely it was those annoying 'Celebrate Diversity!' types

Apparently a lot of the protests were organized by hispanic radio stations. I'm sure they were giddy over all the additional publicity they got through doing it.

Thats what Im saying right there.
The people that go about it the right way are fined, harassed, abused and generally treated like shit, while the ones that circumvent the system are rewarded. WELCOME TO AMERICA!
Thanks!

But seriously, It's been a over a year in the making, and I'm still not even allowed to work or open a bank account!! We've spent thousands and thousands of dollars, waited in suspence for months just for an approval, and finally when I went for my interview they asked me 4 stupid questions and sent me home with a stamp in my passport.

Fuckers

I'm glad there are great people like you guys in American to restore my faith :fly:

I know, it's horrid. I have a couple of Dutch friends that applied in 2000 for green cards. Their dad has duel citizenship and he moved everyone back here to the states. The mom just got her citizenship last week and the kids are still waiting.

She got citizenship 6 years after applying for a green card, and they're complaining?

It's a very simple concept that many Europeans and those in Commonwealth nations don't understand.

Free market capitalism coupled with an emphasis on individual liberty and self-ownership. Those two things are what allowed the millions of immigrants over the years to innovate and fullfill what used to be known as the American Dream. Unfortunately it's now being corrupted by economic socialists and religious zealots on a moral high horse, both of which are successfully using fear to slowly strip away the very rights that our Constitution protects.
No, Europeans do not understand an economic theory that was developed and adopted here long before your country claimed to be the only free democracy in the world

Yes, your society was based on liberalism, but no it did not practice laissez faire economics from it's inception. I can use an example of the price of tea and cockles per barrel being set by the local port authority (modern day part of centralised government) as an example. There was central planning in the mercantile system that was exercised in the US.

I'm not saying Europeans don't understand the economic theory, they just don't seem to grasp the fact that capitalism and liberty are what made America the most powerful nation in the world. Europeans who claim "I don't know how America could be so powerful, they're all fat and lazy." are ignoring the plain and simple fact that innovation and advancement are the products of competition and freedom.

This country does not claim to be the only free democracy but we do offer more freedoms than most other nations. It makes me sad that so many people here are willing to give up their freedoms but damned if I'm about to.

How do you figure our society was based on liberalism? I'm not arguing the point, I just want to know what you mean by it. Are you referring to my statement about individual liberty (not the same as liberalism)?

Pure capitalism, like pure communism, has never existed in any part of the world. It's impossible. But the economy that took hold in America during its' infancy was about as close as a free market as anyone's going to find. There are always levels of government regulation because even laissez faire economics include protections to prevent fraud, monopolies, and other forms of unethical business practices.

The bottom line is that when people claim to not understand how America has become a superpower it's simply because they either don't know the history of America or they fail to understand that capitalism is the only form of economy that encourages technological advancement. Socialism stifles it. Socialism devalues human life. Socialism and other forms of statist economies are about as anti-freedom as any ideology can be. Hate to sound like a cliche American flag waver but "freedom" and self-ownership go hand in hand.

Your representatives seem to think it is. The UK Investigative documentary Dispatches interviewed quite a few senators in the run up to the 2004 Election, in which they stated that "The US is the only Democracy in the world", "The US pioneers democracy throughout the middle east" and "The US is a bullwark of democracy to the rest of the world"

Unless of course you're being sarcastic and referring to the fact that people have no real power etc etc. There is a lot of different types of democracy.

That's a representative democracy of burkian theory.

"Republic" isn't a style of government.

The walmart experience left alot to be desired and I wasn't convinced. Too much reliance on franchises is the one thing putting me off living there for a few years. I like my independent butcher, gourmet food store, green grocer etc.

I did see a guy entirely clad in NASCAR gear though, he also had a moustache.

I can't be sure if it was Dispatches or Horizon. They're both very similar in style. It was this time last year, maybe a little earlier, so it might well be that episode. If I can find out what it was, I'll post it here.

There was another documentary in which the same statements were made, and I'll get the name of it tomorrow, my friend knows it.
