I've had free range dogs for 30 years, and they didn't die of anything but natural causes.

A lot of it's the size of that dog. Maybe your free range dogs are a bit bigger?

Anti-crate people don't get that the crate is their cave/crib/hangout. I've crawled inside my dog's crate when they were sick to comfort them - they really seem to dig that.
