there are a few kids at Kikos school that have the tracking bracelets ... more and more parents are doing this.I think it is safe, and good for him, to be able to walk to school. Don't be surprised, though, if other parents, teachers, or just nosy people question your decision.
A neighbor of mine had the police called on her because her 2 kids, 10 and 8, were playing soccer in the public park without supervision. They weren't causing any problems at the park, it was a Saturday afternoon, the mom knew where they were, but they were ESCORTED HOME BY THE POLICE. The police said that they had to do a "wellness check" because they had received a call from some busybody.
The more freedom kids have, the more they learn, and the more they become competent at life. I think the cellphone with GPS is the best solution for our family. And I think even younger than 10 years old is plenty old enough. An older phone would be fine, and blocking internet is easy; you can even set it up to only call certain people, and shut off at night. And if he's going to a neighbor's to play, he can call you when he arrives there, thus learning responsibility that will come in handy when he's a teenager.
I read a column years ago that really resonated with me, let me find it.
Ok, this is an update

so the tracker hogs battery life..? i charge it and its good to go again? not sure what the issue is.
Kiko would be monitored a few hours a day. not seeing the issue
I'm the last person that watches the news... lolYou need to trust that this world isn't evil. Stop watching the news it will make you feel better.
How are you going to keep the chip in his shoe? I watch the kids on the playground and they come off all the freaking time since they never tie their shoes. Plus how are you going to keep it comfortable?
I like how you jump straight to "you don't love your kids" just because I have a different opinion on GPS tracking their every move like some pedophile than you do, though.
Stay classy, @Maureen

i say that repeatedly here. i dont even know what half the shit people talk about with current events cuz i gave up the news/fake news in 2010
the device is flat and its designed to slip into shoes etc he won't feel a thing.
kiko never takes his shoes off at the playground lol he's not an animal

its literally the size of a nickel if i dont go with the bracelet option.
Would you like to buy some tiger-repelling rocks?i already said all this motherfuckers.
I would actually like to sell you some of mine. I dont have any tigers either, and id like some. So i have to get rid of my rocks.Would you like to buy some tiger-repelling rocks?
Sorry, I don't speak beep-boopi already said all this motherfuckers.
So, to what degree do you prepare for the worst? It's a beautiful and safe world, right up until it's not.

i perosnally am not ok with my son having a phone. the #1 reason is that he will 100% lose it. he is careless with his stuff like that and #2 is that i feel a 10 yr old with a phone is way too young. theres literally no reason for a 10 yr old to have a phone... and if I'm gonna use a phone for tracking reasons, then whats the difference with putting a bracelet on him or on his shoe? same shit
It's a beautiful and safe world, right up until it's not.
Doesn't watch the news, but is convinced that her kid's gonna get abducted.
The very definition of low-information actor.
I have rocks in my front yard, and also have never been attacked by a tiger. Therefore, I have tiger-repelling rocks by your logic.
The device you're talking about isn't GPS, it's bluetooth, and only works up to the limits of bluetooth range.
Go wipe some garlic on your taint.im CONVINCED my kid is gonna get abducted?
where did i ever say that?
this is what i mean about classic you. spewing pure shit and twisting what anyone ever says. must be that fake garlic you're inhaling
theres also a bracelet and a little tile...once again, that trackr device (nickel sized, flat) is not GPS. Itll only tell you where he is from 100 yards away or less. Like a game of "warm warm warm hot hot lava"
the smallest actual GPS device is about the size of a car keyfob
