I am not, never have been, and never will be a supporter of government aid. Maybe I'm idealistic, but I was under the impression that this country was founded by people who made things work for themselves. I know when my family came over on the boat, they didn't have anything, but they certainly didn't take any charity.

I'm a fan of self sufficiency... hard times build character, values and self-respect... qualities this country is lacking, IMO.

Turns out every single commuter train in the known universe is owned by Amtrak. I tried to take a train to Denver: Amtrak. Los Angeles: Amtrak. Augusta, Maine: Amtrak.

It also turns out that a round trip ticket for two to Los Angeles with a room (since I doubt any small child could handle sitting in a chair for 47 hours) costs $1,500.

Trains lose money? You don't say. I can't imagine people opting for a 2-hour flight for $300 over that smokin' hot deal.

That last bit is the fine line between Government Aid and Charity. Charities (Charitys?) help you out because they want to, in general they are more discriminatory about who they help and how they help them. Government Aid is something people are told they are ENTITLED to.

My brother has a brilliant idea for the prison system, in fact we were just discussing it at lunch this afternoon.

He proposes we put all prisoners in pink, they should all hold hands and skip everywhere they need to go... ban smoking all together, they should only watch the Disney channel, they should all be put to work doing road construction while increasing the speed limit to 65 and if one of them gets hit *shrug* oops, oh well, better luck next time.

Fuck prisons. And fuck any punishment that requires taxpayer money for that matter. Bring back the good old fashioned road crews and labor camps.

Buncha pussies in this country. Prison labor is a vast and mostly untapped resource.
