SYG is a set of laws that do several things.
1) duty to retreat - home/vehicle. Before SYG you had a legal obligation to attempt to flee before you could use a firearm in self defense. You literally had to exit your house and be chased down by someone or be cornered within your house in order to turn around and shoot them.
2) legal liability. Under SYG you hold no liability if you shoot someone in a legal manner. You dont get arrested, you don't get your firearm confiscated, and best of all you cannot be sued in a civil suit if you were found to act in a legal manner.
3) This is sort of the contoversial part and what got people screaming about Fl becoming the wild west. Basically it takes
#1 and says you have a right to defend yourself or others from imminent danger jo matter where you are.
There is no redneck appeasement in there. They are a set of laws designed to allow people to actually defend themselves.
The prosecution and precedents set when taking SYG cases are where the state has severely fucked up.
