does the 'stand your ground' law only apply if you kill your attacker, but not if the attacker survives?

It allows you to not retreat in the event that you have to prevent a felony, and use a firearm to defend yourself or others (basically, some minor fine print is probably missing)
You don't even need to fire it if showing it deters the attacker

They keep this bullshit up and they will repeal the law. How the fuck do they expect it to work as it should if they do not prosecute properly?

Holly shit this is bad. 25 years for that?
Fuck stand your ground laws, that shit is retarded. You already have a right to be armed and to use it in self defence. SYG is just some redneck appeasement bullshit, that ultimately has no use other than filling coffins.

SYG is a set of laws that do several things.
1) duty to retreat - home/vehicle. Before SYG you had a legal obligation to attempt to flee before you could use a firearm in self defense. You literally had to exit your house and be chased down by someone or be cornered within your house in order to turn around and shoot them.
2) legal liability. Under SYG you hold no liability if you shoot someone in a legal manner. You dont get arrested, you don't get your firearm confiscated, and best of all you cannot be sued in a civil suit if you were found to act in a legal manner.
3) This is sort of the contoversial part and what got people screaming about Fl becoming the wild west. Basically it takes #1 and says you have a right to defend yourself or others from imminent danger jo matter where you are.

There is no redneck appeasement in there. They are a set of laws designed to allow people to actually defend themselves.

The prosecution and precedents set when taking SYG cases are where the state has severely fucked up.

Yeah I know the law. I'm pro gun and study this stuff along with practical training. It's fucking retarded. You should be arrested if you shoot someone. You should attempt to flee if you can do so to evade the threat before you hand someone a death sentence. You can already defend yourself if it comes down to needing to do so.

So, abolish SYG and this guy still goes to jail because he should have fled because he was out in public.
You don't get it both ways.

Why should you automatically be arrested? To soak up more tax money when you could be out in the world while the investigation is going on?

dude I never said he should have to flee because he's in public. In any situation, if there's a way out of it without death, that way should be taken first. Guns are for last resort only.

No one should be automatically arrested. Just stop. Jesus you people!

Of course you should. You just bloody killed someone. You should be arrested, investigated, and then either freed or tried.

They need big gubment.

lol @ big government / small government bullshit. People are so easily sold on bullshit these days. The fuck cares on the size of government? You wouldn't if it was working for you. The only reason people give a fuck these days is because it's not working for them. All people need is a government that just does some bloody good for them regardless of size.
