Ontopic Random Computer-Electronics Thread

your options are as follows

1) 5in3 enclosures, about 80-100 a piece, gives you 5 3.5 drives in 3 5.25 bays (which is why i asked what case you had)
2) A small disk shelf, give you about 12-15 drive capacity via an SFF-8087 > SFF-8088 cable
3) A 3d printed enclosure that you pair with a ebay-backplane that can give you whatever amount of disks you want

I have room in the case, I was actually thinking about printing some drive cages or something. I wonder if I can just find a 5in3 to print. Didn't know that existed!

Print them with PETG if you do.

I printed drive holders out of PLA for my NAS, and they sagged.

you'll need the backplane. Theres tons of 3u and 4u backplanes for like 20-30 bucks. But the drive cage size backplanes arent really something people harvest.

I like the A-series supermicro backplanes, specifically the 826A. They take molex'es for power, and SFF-8087 cables. If you could print a drive holder that matched with one those that gives you a nice 12 bay expander.

Theres a bunch on ebay that take HP backplanes, but those take non-standard power and have expanders.

Heres an example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1951314721...rentrq:ca8ea5b91840aa7145f33328fffec3aa|iid:1

But like I said, I dont like that backplane.

I actually don't need a backplane. I've got 4-5 open SATA slots. I just need to find some sort of hard drive rack that I can print.

Although I'm reading that they sag even in PETG. So who the fuck knows. Maybe I do need the whole damn thing.

Probably easiest to just buy something:

Printed this up. We'll see how it goes.

@Domon If you happen to need some 16TB SATA drives, this is a pretty sweet deal. 3 for $450.

edit: Just realized this is from 10 months ago. I've no idea why my HA alert went off for this.
