Ontopic Random Computer-Electronics Thread

I sure don't.

I just keep a 14 day backlog of video on my NFS server that's purged by a cron job. If I need anything in that window, I can just zip into the directory (it's organized by date and hour of the day), get what I need, ffmpeg it into MP4, and go about my business.
wtf format is it in to start with that you have to convert it? you said you have dahuas, they direct save to h.265 or h.264

They save it currently as .dav.

I haven't dug in and seen if there's an alternative in the firmware, because it's a shell script and 2 seconds to convert, and I've needed to do it once.

sometimes its almost like you dont actually understand modern technology
I'm confused, so maybe I don't understand your use case.

Mine's fairly straight forward. The camera writes to an NFS share that it happens to be on the ethernet with. The NFS server has a cron job for retention policy. At no point does the camera footage go anywhere that would 1) count against the cap I have with Comcast, or 2) to someone whose privacy policy is less restrictive than mine.

ahh, this appears to be a old 2015ish dahua thing. The new ones save in mp4.

live view != footage

Yeah, but live view didn't get you $2200 in insurance money, footage did.

I'm saying I don't have any use for live view, and you haven't really made a case for it.
i use it every day to check in on pets, family, if i get vehicle alerts or package alerts, just to quickly check what it was, etc

If I'm not at home to begin with, it's unlikely that I'll be in a place that has access to any cloud providers, so it's a non-starter for me at this point.

Weren't the marketing folks going to rename the A2ACTU to the "poo poo pew pew" or something cuter/fancier?

Or is it still in the engineering development stage

the A2ACTU is a huge hit in some parts of japan and san francisco
For fun, here is the genesis of genius:

And the first mention of the A2ACTU:

and that genesis came from an ooooold internet video of a kid who's sexting with like 30 year old lady (comedy, not kiddie porn). The poop goes back and forth forever.
