I went into Sam Ash and saw an Alvarez small body acoustic for $99.
Played it, straight neck- decent tone, good harmonics.
$107 including tax.
The trick is, don't reveal the instrument for a minimum of 6 months.
Then leave it around conspicuously.
When the spouse says "WTF is that and where did you get the money to pay for it?"
"Oh this old thing? I've had this for ages. Almost forgot I had it at all!"
