Besides, regardless of the good and bad sides of either one it doesn't change the fact that throughout all of recorded history capitalism has been the driving force of innovation and technological - in some cases, cultural - spread.

Compulsory redistribution of wealth, no matter what you call it, will always effect the largest class of earners the most. The people at the far ends of the curve on both sides will always be impacted the least, i.e. the very rich and the very poor.
