Hm, I love both.

My dogs are constantly at my side and when I cry they get really weirded out and sit with me. While I was going through toilet prayers, the male sat patiently next to me until I got up and then would lay down with me, with his head on my lap. They cry when I leave the room, they're very needy and I like that.

My cats are cool in thei own way. My oldest waits for me at the door when I get home from work and then squawks at me (he's got throat issues and it's difficult for him to meow) to say hello and get pets, then at bedtime, he waits for me on my side of the bed and curls up around my head and purrs me to sleep. He's the only one who sleeps with us. In the morning, we open our bedroom door and no less than 5 kitties will run in, in a single file, to greet us and get pets.

I think cats and dogs each have their own special attributes and endearing qualities. I dont' think I could choose between the two.
