Economy is soo bad that people can't afford food!

I just opened my Gas and Electric bill. $322.70 :(

I can understand that prices are skyrocketing and all of us are feeling the strain, but I'll go out and get a job flipping burgers before I'll take government assistance. I really can't stand people that milk the system for all it is worth. I wish there were an easy solution for this. The homeless populations are rising, and I really don't care much about people who don't want to work and support themselves. That is their choice. However, I don't like seeing these people all over the streets begging me for Dan's hard earned dime. I wish they'd just go hide somewhere and leave us alone.

Of course he also had money/credit card to do the move and had a job or at least a lead to a job before he moved as well as money to live off of for a bit until he did start bringing home a paycheck.

If he wasn't there doing that, how would Kiwi do it?

So? I got access to those things because I WORKED for them. The woman in this article hasn't worked in 17 years, possibly her entire life, and has used any and all excuses available to keep from doing so.

Yeah, if KNYTE can get out of a shithole (Utah), then anyone can. He's got short legs = lots of walking

Werd, and I flipped Utah off out the window as I drove across the border too (yes, I really did, check user title).

I still don't pay utilities; it's one of the benefits of the university subsidizing this housing area for their graduate students. The packet they gave me when I moved in said to not pull more than 15 amps out of any given socket at any given time, but I think that's more for safety anyway (?).

Along the way to my glorious current position at $13/hour as a Lab Assistant, I've been a painter, a car/boat detailer, a Subway Sandwich Artist, a restaurant host, a waiter, and a Community Center Assistant (receptionist). And I'm 22.

I rode my bike to 5 of those jobs and walked to the 6th. And I walk to my current job too.

I guess I have some measure of sympathy because I've never had to go 40 miles to work. But still, it just amazes me that there isn't something they could do about it.

I haven't always been married DB, and before Knyte came along and started supporting me financially, I had a job. I even worked 32 hours a week plus went to school full time for a year to support myself and pay all my bills.

These people are lazy worthless fatties that, like mentioned above, are very good at coming up with excuses and have no desire to ever come up with solutions.

This is why I very rarely do anything for the homeless. They can fend for themselves... animals in shelters cannot.

Not that I agree with abusing the system, but let me play Devil's Advocate a minute (I love doing that :fly: )

The area they are in, Fostoria, is really small, separated by lots of land. The average mileage on cars there is 30 to 40K a year because work and home and stores for groceries is so spread out. The town itself is a small town on a major state route junction. First thing would be for them to move.

Lots of the business there is by travellers to places like restaurants and gas stations. If people aren't driving as much (which is true) and they aren't spending as much on restaurant or fast food to save money (which they are) that town's "industries" would suffer. When she says restaurants and such aren't hiring, she probably isn't lying.

Getting a job elsewhere would involve driving to the next biggest town, the hole that is Toledo. Driving 40 miles each way to get the only job available in that dying town (McD's) isn't at all wise.

Now granted the fat bitch needs to die AND stop abusing the system, she might make some real points. She is of course taking them to her advantage, but the point that lower income people living in a town that has no public transport (which Fostoria does not have) and that the average commute is double digits (negating the argument for walking or even biking) in an area with 4 seasons, finding a job would be difficult. Also, she probably has no money to transfer to a better city, either, so she's in essence stuck.

The bitch still needs to die, though.

And you know how many jobs there are available in Columbus? People need to go where the jobs are. The Housing market here even goes from shanties to mansions so it's not like they wouldn't be able to afford to live here.

they could always move. the only thing that bothers me about this is they havn't exausted all of their options and seem to be unwilling to do so...

Outside of that, 45 years working at GM leaves alot of money behind... these people are just horrible with finances. Doesn't matter if they had 100k a year jobs, they'd still end up with nothing and begging for food at the end of the month.

Welfare should only be given to those willing to take and do well in public provided classes on subjects such as raising a child, proper finances, english, job skills, etc... if they are on welfare, they arn't working anyways, so why can't they show up to a few hours of classes a week?

If it was up to me, I'd get rid of welfare/social security altogethor. Provide public day care and bus passes to those who are below a certain income, and limit the amount of years they can be on foodstamps.

Hell, make them go out in a field and dig a ditch for their government supplements. That's what they made them do when the system started. We have plenty of levee's that need more dirt thrown on them.

there is a public day care system. many of you may refer to it as "school".

I see this shyte every day. and like most of you, it boils my blood.

still have a hard time getting my mind around the idea that "Unemployment" and "jobs that Americans aren't willing to do" can coexist.

The girl at work that I can't stand has a fiance that moved here from Chicago. He had little experience and wanted an accounting position. After 2 months, he found an accounting job. Then thought about quitting the first day because he was just watching someone.

I don't get it. There is not a job that is beneath me. I cleaned toilets in college. If I got laid off, I would be work what I needed to. I agree it doesn't make sense. I guess food isn't that important to them if they don't want to work for it.

I start marketing in Columbus, OH today!!!! If you know any businesses or residents who want a guaranteed 10% off there gas bill let me know. I can probably swing some other discounts too depending on usage.

yep. I had 20 odd jobs betw 84 and 94. I would do damn near anything to put food on the table.
