It happens pretty regularly to everyone. Like Chikken said, getting ignored or different treatment than someone of the person's own race. Age discrimination is common too. You should know that one well, being someone who came up in corporate world without a degree, especially being young. People will assume that you don't know shit and ignore you, possibly closing doors for you. I'd be shocked if you said it never happened to you.
Or imagine your furry tail sticking out from behind you in a business meeting. Its all, "Oh you need to go to HR" and shit. Fuck you HR, IM A FURRY DONT HEIGHT.

i guess my rebuttal (teehee, i said butt) would be there are certainly DEGREES of discrimination. and i think discrimination and persecution are two separate animals.
believe me, i get just as tired of the 'whitey holdin me down' shit as anybody, but i also probably have more black friends than most of you and they've given me a perspective that was new to even me, someone who played hoops and listened to rap and spent nights at my high school chum's house in the projects... regularly.

agreed. and this is why there's the N word, with so much power behind it, and nothing for whiteys to be called with the same effect.
but.
leave the past alone. i know what happened, and i know it sucks. but people learned from it. leave it alone and move on.
if white people tried to have community groups solely based on color, everyone else would be up in arms about it. i'm tired of races getting away with segregation because of their races.
just because your great-grandparents had to go through some shit does not mean you're owed anything. make your own name. don't hide behind one from the past.
There's a difference between living with incidents of discrimination, and living with the expectation of discrimination and prejudice. A number of times my gf has pointed out things that I do without even thinking about it that she would never do. The most recent example was buying a couple things at a 7/11. The guy offered a bag to put it in and I declined. She apparently never, ever, walks out of a store without the merch being in a bag because people will assume she stole it or something.

to me, that's an excuse. has she tried it? is she just ASSUMING that the person will stop her based on color? she shouldn't just expect racism to be there.
what if she started making points by doing it ESPECIALLY if she were to get stopped? she's got the receipt. make them look like asses if they are stopping her based on color.
it's not assuming it'll happen, it's knowing it'll happen some of the time, and not wanting to deal with it. being accused sucks even if you are right. why should she have to prep for battle with some ignorant fuck every time she buys something? so she gets a bag.
she's got no one to blame but herself if she is always assuming the worst...if it happens she should just tell whoever to fuck off and mind their own business
there are other things too. we walked out of a restaurant together the other night. walked out, then across the street to the valet guy, there was no one else around. i handed him my ticket, then he asked for her ticket. how often do you think he asks for the second person's ticket when an all white, black, latin or asian couple walks up?
