My dog is a carpet muncher

Yeah, I'm going to stick with my vet's advice on this. Lu goes to see her enough as it is, I can only imagine bringing her in for kidney failure saying, "Yeah but this internet chick said it was okay!!"

You're lucky your dog is good like that. When we get a house Lu is going to have her own room (without carpet) and we'll keep her locked up in there with potty pads or something. For now, I get to post funny uh oh pictures on the internet :fly:

Its just crate training, its a common thing to teach dogs. She will not have kidney failure because her bladder is empty when we put her in the crate.

She is complicated because she seems to have never had human interaction before us. Being an adult dog, its like training a feral cat... geezus.

I think she has come a long way!

She has but she's not perfect, I don't think any dog is because they all have their little issues like people. I just don't think its nice to pick LuLu.

This could be a stupid question and I dont have a dog so who knows my logic here but if you have to leave a dog in a crate for 10 hours a day, 5 days a week...

Why own a dog? Thats 50 hours a week spent locked in a little ass cage, seems kinda mean to me. Again I dont own a dog so I cant say but it doesnt sound good.

Okay, I know what crate training is, I have had my dog for a couple of years now. You're really starting to annoy me with your "I got a dog so I know better than you" attitude. Just accpet the fact that dogs are different. Different breeds are different. They have different needs. I'm glad for you that your dog doesn't require as much attention as does mine, good for you. My dog is crate trained, my dog has gone though obedience, she knows how to walk on a leash, ride in a car and goes to work with me so she's good around people. What she cannot do with her 15 pound self is go 10 hours without peeing or drinking water, and this is on the advice of her vet, who we go see about every 2 months. My vet is well aware of her carpet munching behavior, and everything else about my dog. I have gotten advice from teh professional in this regard. You do not know better than me in this instance.

And yes, going too long without emptying the bladder can cause kidney failure, especially in smaller dogs. When the bladder is full the kidneys stop functioning and toxins back up in the body... too much of this can cause kidney failure and it's prevalent in smaller dogs which is why my vet said "do not crate her for 10+ hours a day".

But I appreciate your opinion, really, I do.

Well I figured its outweighed by belly rubs, treats, toys, weekly baths and grooming, organic dog food, at least one trip to the dog park per week . . . .

I suggest that you guys get naked and fight it out. I will be in the corner with Zachy-poo.

I know you take good care of your dog and I wouldnt question that because I know you are a :heart:ing person. My question to you though is that doesnt it seem mean to keep a dog in a cage for 50 hours a week? Obviously many people do it but I just cant wrap my mind around it right now, seems odd.

The ChikkenPup has free reign of the house all day. Mrs. Chikken or myself will come home at lunch to let 'er outside to pea and carrot, then of course when we get home after work.

As long as she has a piece of rawhide available, ChikkenPup won't chew anything else - if it's not there she's chewed shoes (Which we don't leave out anymore), cabinet corners, boxes, and so on. The funny bit is, she doesn't actually chew on the rawhide without someone being home :wtf:

She also sleeps through the night, 10PM - 7/8AM without going out.

Nah Diego is only 7 pounds and he has a pretty big cage. He goes and chills in the cage regardless of whether or not I tell him too.

. . . this is mostly to make myself feel better. :D

If he enjoys the cage I guess I can understand that...

This is gonna sound like something someone would say to me about drinking...

Wouldnt it be better to save that money you spend on treats, toys and whatever else and get him properly trained to not fuck up the house?

the majority of that would be spent sleeping regardless of being in a cage or not

And now I'm going to fuck you up. You don't have a dog don't fucking tell me how to train mine. Dogs mess up the house when they get bored, no amount of training is going to make him not get bored.
