special treatment: the most innocent of comments can spark a sexual harrasment claim, maternity leave, equal pay for less work. they want to continue to be treated like women in the workplace, even when that workplace is full of rude guys that would normally converse with each other in lewd ways. my entire branch of PSS was sent to sensitivity training because one chick didn't like the fact that 20 guys in the warehouse were cracking dirty jokes. instead of her finding another fraking job we had to accomodate her.

Firstly, this was supposed to be about chivalry, not work environment ethics.
I would also like to point out that I and a few other women I know love to joke like that at work, too. You just have to know your audience and be respectful to those around you. If you guys had thought about it, you should have made friends with her first before cutting up around her -she would probably have been more likely to accept it than to backlash (notice I said "more likely" -I do not know her nor the entire situation so I'm going on my gut here.) Not to mention, you guys had to sit through a video? Is that so terrible and overly accommodating? I reiterate... know your audience. Would you talk like that or treat a client the same way? I should hope not unless you know them personally. Is that an inconvenience or being courteous to others? I feel that falls to being polite, not chivalrous.

As for paternity leave, that should be law, imo. Why don the guys ban together and protest these things or talk to your local law makers to make things like paternity leave mandatory for businesses?

Does the Family Medical Leave act not cover it? Or do you mean paid paternity leave?
 
That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You basically want companies to be able to fire anyone regardless of the reason they miss some work.

No, I want companies to have the choice of whether or not to cater to such needs. Would you work for a company that told you a sick day would mean you lose your job? Neither would I. Company would have to include such things in its employee contract. If it wants to include maternity leave, cool. Doesn't mean it should be a law.

I understand, my point is that because of one person's complaint the entire branch lost a day of productive work. She wasn't directly harassed, she wasn't attacked, no one threatened to fire her if she didn't get on her knees and suck some sales rep schlong. She was simply offended and people in this country think they have a right to not be offended.

Because laws like that should not exist. The job market has the ability to regulate this shit on its' own. Like I said, none of us would work for a company that would fire us if we were sick and didn't come in. That company's not going to survive very long. Laws like that are unnecessary.

That would end up being a lengthy contract. Too many variables and what ifs that an employee wouldn't account for and still end up getting fired over.

That's dumb. Lots of people might get pregnant who used protection. If you want to claim it's their choice to have sex, then you get into the employers digging into personal lives outside of work. They could then fire you for getting cancer because you smoked. Or getting sick because you didn't wash your hands enough.

The only time in which pregnancy is not a choice is rape. Anyone who denies that the only form of birth control that is absolutely 100% effective is abstinence is a fool. I know many condom and pill babies, we all do.

So you want the companies to basically control people's personal lives? That sounds like a winner to me.
