WTF Bad boys, Bad boys, whatcha gonna do

A lot of the bad police actions come from the police violating people's rights. You don't have to comply to them violating your rights.

that happens and it sucks but you still can't resist.

I've had cops ask to search my garage and i told them no guess what they went in and did it anyway for no reason.

I've had cops treat my dad like a criminal because he called them to report 3,000 being stole from his house. they treated my dad like he was some drug dealer and started questioning why he had so much cash on hand. then when he called a week later to ask for updates they just said I probably stole it from him and hung up.

some cops are pricks and should be fired but that doesn't mean we should just stop listening to cops.

Defunding isn't the right answer, it's a knee-jerk reaction.

Funding them even more is the right answer. Money hire the best of the best, give them the extensive training they need, etc. Make it a job that needs more than a high school education for...
they already have ridiculous amounts of money, more than enough to have covered more/better training, but they spend it on shit like rocket launchers and tanks. even places that already have implemented things like implicit bias training haven't seen good results from it.

the system is rotten, and it goes beyond just the cops, but they're the ones who are armed and interact with the public/put people into the system, so unfucking that part of the system is step 1.

just because you may have only heard about it recently does not mean it is a recent demand, and bear in mind that others who also only recently heard of it have co-opted the term to mean something different (e.g. "defund the police doesn't actually mean defund the police" like actually yes it does lmao if you don't want to defund them, call it something else)

lots of people have horrible interactions with cops but doesn't mean you can just stop doing what they say. I once got pulled over at 1am with my dog in the car. Officer came up and my dog started barking and would not stop. The cop yelled at me to shut the fucking dog up or he would do it himself. i reached in the back and pet my dog until he calmed down.

This officer claimed i was swerving and he thought i had been drinking. I never had a sip of any alcohol that day. I tried telling him but he wouldn't listen so i said fuck it give me a breathalyzer. i blow 0.0 and he tells me to be careful and sends me on my way.

I wanted to get out my car and flip out on him when he threatened to hurt my dog. that would have solved nothing and only made things worse. I just complied with the assholes orders and went on my way.

Some people are pricks but you still have to listen to their orders or bad shit happens.

The difference is you were given the option to shit Fido up, and you did by reaching to the back seat and petting him. That’s a far cry from being shot while reaching to retrieve your registration or handgun permit.

And you’re lucky he didn’t give you more of a test than a breathalyzer. I’ve seen people in AA who got DUIs for other substances not tested by a breathalyzer, and a couple of them were there for not monitoring their insulin (diabetics).

So, thanks for pointing out that you benefited from the current double standards as a white guy.

I don't really agree. The idea of defunding the police in order to fund people that have the skills to deal with problems makes a massive amount of sense to me. Why would you pay cops to bring them up to the level of other people that are already there?
Defunding in order to fund others would be an almost overnight change, increasing funding in order to send cops off to more school and start bringing in better candidates is a glacial pace.
Who are these other people that would get funded? Social workers for gang crime? Financial managers to help drug cartels become legit businesses?
Ah, magicians to teach criminals to only steal for fun and entertainment. *Someone gave me a magic book when I was 12-ish - I put it to good use for shoplifting. :fly:

Early intervention teams, family support workers, drug workers, youth offending workers, systemic family therapists, domestic abuse advocates and support agencies, education agencies , youth workers in projects targeting youth violence and offending, exploitation workers, teenager group workers, healthy relationship workers, abortion clinics, health workers, high school nurses, pastoral care support workers? The entire socialised industry of workers who's sole job it is to take care of the welfare and safeguarding of civilians? I don't need to go on. That isn't the police's job, nor should it be down to religious or charity groups to prop up those at the sticky end of society and institutional malace.

Ok, you addressed the kids. What do we do with the adult perps?

I agree it shouldn't be down to religious or charity groups to take care of any of that. They're already overburdened in most cases and generally are only accessible to those willing to endure repeated admonitions of "just turn to God".

Probation, rehab facilities, social welfare programs, adult social workers, family parentimg groups, early interventiom work. To break intergenerational cycles doesnt just target kids or adults, its an entirely systemic approach to change a culture and make a long term investment.

Nice sidestep but you STILL are avoiding what to do NOW, with adult perps such as: OG gangbangers, armed robbers, carjackers, intoxicated drivers, serial rapist, pedophiles, et al. THe flux capacitor isn't going to fix a 40 tr. old with a 25 year rap sheet.

Many of those sound like serious criminal issues, which is where a protect and serve approach can come in handy. These things would decline if you funded other routes, got rid of for profit private prisons and funded rehab programs as well as everything else suggested above as a long term solution rather than incarcirating minorities at an alarmjng rate, having mandatory minimums etc.

Is this american justice system buzzword bingo? You forgot cash bail, plea bargains, zero social safety net.

Yeah those would be good things to get rid of. Keep em coming.
I live on the street have no family and am officially uneducated. Also broke.

Somehow I manage not to steal shit, do drugs, rape people, or assault anyone.

Weird how what you do effects outcomes.

Careful, if @APRIL finds out you're living on the street, she'll trap you, feed you and have you neutered.
