Mostly I think what's important is to be able to be in a mindset to apply yourself everywhere. (I think we all have a natural tendency to get stale)
The daughter of the barn owner (where I keep the horse) graduated college a year ago & worked part time at another barn giving riding lessons. Lived at home, had dreams of getting a job in her major. something Agricultural. Lived here, near chicago, but wanted to be in KY so was looking for AG jobs down there. Interviewed at 2, both stressed to her they really wished she had experience. Sorry-no job for u. sadness ensues. I told her that she's got to get the lingo down and put herself in a position that they'll be missing out if they don't hire her on the spot, and to stop trying only AG stuff. Go to KY, and get a job in anything while you're looking for an AG job. She finally came to her senses. I told her that after I got hired for my first big-boy job, at the end of the interview, the GM asked me "So, what's a Food Expediting Specialist?" Me: smiled at him. "Waiter."
