Halp We have a boofing quandry...

So as a final update to this:

I ended up paying the original roofing guy $200 in order to clear my karma. Dude was awesome about it. He said to call him if I wanted to try and get additional cash out of the insurance company. I went with the quality company instead. They are here today replacing the roof.

So we went with the lightest colored shingles that our HOA would allow. We also now have ridge vents. Somehow there was no venting done when the house was built. Anyway, the attic went from about 145F to about 125F. Less heat gain should help make us a bit more energy efficient. We also just went on the tiered rate plan with the electric company. Man I wish our dryer had delayed start. :hs:

edit: I'm kicking around the idea of using a raspberry pi or Arduino to 'push' the dryer button.

No, but I was thinking of putting in a solar one at one point. Not really sure what the ROI is...

up here it's about $100 install + the cost of the fan. They're temp controlled (you can set it to turn on at 102, etc) and they TOTALLY reduce your AC bill.

You're in FL. I have to imagine, it's a decent ROI as your hot season is longer than the majority of the country.

I've had them in all my houses.

I'll look into them again. I seem to recall they were like 400-500?
