Hawt What is your oldest online presence?

every once in a while I remember what to Google or wayback to find the GeoCities page I made in like 2001-2ish, otherwise it's probably my first LJ which started 2003. I had a Melo (another journal site) before that but it got wiped. also had a friendster around that time, but that's gone, too.

Some of these guys definitely overlapped with [H] which then overlapped with {m} which then overlapped with this place.

How young are you fuckers that you only go back to '04 online?

I'm not linking my old accounts here, but they go back to '97, with the MacAddict and Boot online forums (ubb, bitches).

I mean I was on the internet earlier than that but not doing anything one could search for and find records of, mostly because the forums I used to post on have long since been nuked (and thankfully AOL doesn't, to my knowledge, retain or publish chat logs from the 90s)

who apparently was arrested on child abuse charges, then died. The backtracin' consequences will never be the same guy.

Not about to link to anything but earliest I found with known names/locations was fall of '99. I know I had a presence there even earlier but a crash and redo caused lost information. Definitely not my earliest existence but I don't think odd BBs are in existence from when I first started ;)

There's one post remaining from 2004 from a Celebdaq forum I ran. No idea why it's still searchable as it ceased to exist in 2005. There was an MTV Asia interview I did in 2002 still around till recently and another from a radio station set in South Africa a year or 2 earlier. They both have now gone in the last year. I see loads of results on club sites on the google searches but when I click on the links the pages have long been updated.

I found some of my old posts from 2006 on an EQ server I used to play on. Before that, most of my stuff was on modem based BBSes or on some forums that don't exist anymore (RIP Gamepower)

Edit: Damn, that account is older than I thought.

also tbf I got my first fambly computer and internet in probably like 1998 and I was in middle school. we had AOL and I used it 50/50 for AIM with my friends from school and doing stupid roleplay chats (heyoooooo Rhydin) for the 1 hour or so a day I was allowed to tie up the phone line. it's funny bc the only people that ever called were bill collectors, and we never answered, but on the off chance there was some emergency, my parents were afraid of tying up the phone line, and even when cell phones started to be a "thing," we still had dial up because I lived in the middle of nowhere with no access to cable, and there was no cell service. I think we finally got DSL in like 2004?
