iirc, the magnetosphere prevents ionized particles from sun from blowing off our whole atmosphere.
if you turn an unopened can of soda over it doesn't magically pour out anyway. I don't see how the atmosphere would be any different

Not at all, what is it with you guys today? Jesus Christ. I just have a vague recollection of Stephen Fry (clever bloke) saying on TV a while ago that the poles were going to change over and I thought he said it had done it before and was quite normal.
It's because 2012 is approaching and we all will die when the earths crust melts into the earth.
FACT.
Does no one remember the dark ages?! Those bitches were dark!

Well, technically it is quite normal over the life of the Earth, but STOP ARGUING WITH ME.
kekekekekeke
I was under the impression that the poles reversed quite frequently and it was a natural thing?
What about people who live without any electricity, hospitals, food or schools every single day? Sorry man but I don't think I'd find it too traumatic to be without my TV for 3 days.

Last one was 780,000 years ago. Hardly frequent but indeed natural.
We were without water for a week while the treatment plants cleaned for days AFTER power was restored before the pumps could serve it to the people. Fuck TV.
Those cities that are functional without electricity are not large and are self-sustaining. The Northeastern part of North America, however, is not small and unpopulated, nor completely self-sufficient.
Cheers man. Considering what Stephen Fry is like he'd probably say 780k was 'recent' in the grand scheme of things.
Earth is 4.5 billion years old. Flipping 5 or 6 times is hardly frequent.
If you're serious...

And I guess its the ionosphere, but without poles we have no ionosphere to protect us.
a reversal of poles means we still have them
