I often wonder how miso soup got invented.

Did some dude have a near drowning, stumble back into the shops, then find the noodle guy - “Hey, Hideo! I just nearly died on saltwater and seaweed, but it tasted great - can you make that but with some kind of squishy chunk in it too?”
