Advice The Home Improvement/Automation Thread

There will always be upkeep with grout. And there are clearly better modern building materials to use.
Not really. Nothing beats a real tile bath enclosure. The porosity of other materials and their durability isn't conducive to a wet environment.

Fiberglass looks like shit after a few years. Stone tends to be porous. Concrete is super porous and looks like shit, you have to basically get it sanded and sealed every few years. Anything vinyl or plastic is impossible to repair and will look like shit eventually.

All because you cant scrub the shower every few months with comet?

What the hell are you doing in your shower that you need to repair things in it?

8 year old unsanded grout, 1/16 spacing, grey in color, sealed on installation.

Looks just about like it did new, never done anything except wet mop the floor

My favorite shower enclosures are solid marble slabs. So easy to keep clean.

We have a whole wall of those blasted clear blocks and thick grout currently and they are a massive pain to clean.

Just hire a housekeeper, it's like $50 and they clean your house once a week.

during the mid-winter months we do the 25 buck a month car wash thing. Unlimited washes and for the couple months of marginally ugly winter here its nice to rinse off the salt and muck.
