it's like fertilizer for your garden. No, it's not super natural oganic bla bla bla, but yo shit will grow and grow and grow.

& spend money on good potting soil.

Honestly, if you go to the garden part of a big box store ask the sales people. They'll point you in the right direction.

My first time I bought 'dirt' it turned into one giant block & nothing grew. Buy some good 'Potting Soil' it's almost exactly the same soil as what you get when you buy the plants in the plastic containers that have already started growing. I think it's way easier to buy them already started. You can easily start them from seed inside. just use a Solo Cup with the potting soil & keep the soil 'moist' not wet or soaked. Check the dryness of the soil every day.

I get the stuff to use in in-ground flower beds, then mix in some sand if I need something that drains well (such as rosemary)

I typically use gravel instead of lava rocks.
