People born in 1972 still grew up with computers. They were in high school when they became much more wide spread.

I was born in 68, and we have a full lab of Apple ]['s + a Plato access terminal in my school when I was in 8th grade. By college, 1986ish, the first Mac was already becoming the word processer of choice as typewriters were rapidly being replaced. By 1990, no one typed anything anymore.
 
I used Macs in grade school in the mid 1980s (Oregon Trail and Logo programming), but we didn't own one until 1988.

This. Macs were in all my schools from IIe on up. Had some experience with a VAX at the local uni though, and tandys at home

Neither did I
Being comfortable around computers is not the same as being tech-savvy

I implied (poorly) that my generation is the last to not be able to follow simple instructions in the common workings of a PC
