Ontopic Should California and Oregon seek secession?

Im just waiting for "the big one" that just shears california off and sinks it into the pacific.

Thats an old plan. Years ago I bought some real estate on what will be the new coast. "Costa del Darth". "Handsomeville". "Marina del Darth". And one my partner snuck in: "Titusburg".

most of california's talent comes from the rest of the US, so in like one generation they'd be done.

entertainment is their biggest export probably and that would all get shuffled over to NYC real quick like.

one of the reasons the entertainment industry is so huge in california is all the established shooting locations and various terrains. nyc doesn't have that. it's not even just about being outside but massive lots and studios aren't exactly easy to transport

also their biggest export is milk but also tech talent which can move elsewhere but that'll only happen if the tech companies leave the bay area

The fascinating question would be, what type of government would they set up?
Almost definitely social Democrat, but Cali has a reputation of being more heavy handed then even most EU states.
I've read some of their business regulations and they simply blow away other blue states for red tape.

only happen if the tech companies leave the bay area

I don't see how Cali forming a new country wouldn't cause a mass exodus of companies.
A) an already formed (somewhat) stable country which your company is already established within, coupled with a massive amount of states trying to capitalize on Cali leaving by giving breaks to companies that moved there
B) a brand new country that has no established tax code, no established currency, and a desperate need to start their economy (meaning lotsa taxes)

if we're all playing the hypothetical here then california forming a new country wouldn't just be a mass exodus of companies it would be a bloody conflict. by the time they'd be in a situation to leave their infrastructure would have long since been knocked out of commission

but assuming not then you're right, tech companies would leave very fast. then again they've been trying to do that for a while but it's hard to get the average millennial techie that very often has left of center beliefs to move to texas

The California resident in me is spitting smart water all over myself in a laughing fit everytime I hear someone bring this up. Why don't the homos that want this Calexit thing to happen, vote to split it up into the 5 states that's been proposed numerous times? That's more productive. You'll have two states that are 95% democrat and you can push all of the gay, liberal, anti-gun, socialist, Bloomberg supported bills through and end up doing what you want. That'll leave the rest of the state, which is primarily red, to do what they want.

Also, devatstate the red part once the blue parts don't have to support them through taxes.
