Generally AB's are two year courses here. They are sometimes known as an "Access Course", allowing people to persue Law or whatever after doing two years. IBs arent generally recognized here, we have a domestic system called AP (advanced placement) which you generally do in High School.
Mostly polytechnics will do AB pathways, but larger Universities generally recognise them on the same sort of level as a good set of A Level's / IB's. It's just a very long and expensive way to get to that level.
