Not if it's got a clutch and not a torque converter.

But that JPG is wrong. Autos have shifted faster than people rowing their own for almost 20 years now.
But if its just paddle shifting, then the car is automatically shifting for you, you're just pushing a button even though it has a clutch.

Also, don't you lose some efficiencies with a traditional automatic, therefore making a stick 'faster'?

Then it's just a semantic argument. The traditional automatic doesn't use a clutch, whether or not you can select gears yourself.

Traditional automatics have torque converters which lose power if you're below the engine RPM where the input and output shafts become mechanically engaged (as opposed to just a fluid coupling), but doesn't necessarily impact shift speeds.

In the old days stock automatics were spongy but shit has come a long way.

Manual still means a gearbox and clutch and shift stick. Amputees have a tough time with them.
