GAY OMG Socialism!

If everyone's lives are subsidized by government why would they do anything but hang out?

I feel like it would cause a ridiculous inflation of all prices. If minimum wage goes up to the ~$21/hr then (at least by my understanding) the prices of everything else would have to go up in turn. Right?

Because not everyone wants to live off of $2800 a month?

Pretty much, as fly already pointed out, massive inflation is a very real possibility. It'll be interesting to see how it works out.

They better have some Damn good immigration laws in place before this goes into effect too.

$16 an hour assuming 40 hours, it's about double their current minimum wage.

It would increase consumption which could even out

Thing is it's not a legislative move though, it's a referendum that their legislature is going to vote on. I dont see it passing.

Would make sense, no?

I feel the more financially comfortable a population is, the more likely they would venture into entrepreneurship. This could be great for the economy.

You should study the Eskimos in Alaska sometime. All 100 percent subsidized, none have to work, and the end result is umm... well, it hasn't been good.

Part of their problem is from massive inbreeding too though.

So, like a lot of the south.

How on earth do you compare Eskimos in Alaska to Everyone else? Shit is very different in their world compared to ours. They grew up with a completely different mindset. Be a little more objective.

Been in place for a long time already. iirc, you have to have demonstrable value to their economy to get citizenship.

That's funny from someone who always thinks cause shit works in (insert somewhere here) it'll be awesome in America.

has anyone here actually read the law or just taken snippets from news articles?

also, the only reason the swiss have "good gun laws" is because they have some of the strictest gun control in the world. you can't point to them as the example unless you're also supporting strict limits on ammunition and registration of every single firearm in the country. stfu about their gun laws, it's everything you hate about our current laws.

it's silly to think that someone making the equivalent of 100k/yr is simply going to quit his job to live on a third of that. it's silly to think that the 100k/yr guy is even going to get this money in the first place, they will have an income cutoff. this is designed so that people aren't left to fail and it gives them the freedom to take risks with their ideas and their dreams. imagine how much more innovation we would have if people didn't have to worry about their children starving if their ideas don't pan out. people would take more risks and make better investments into those risky ideas if they knew they would at least be kept from living on the street. the only people who are going to stay home and not work are the same people who would already not accomplish much

Yeah I know right, silly me to think something that worked in one place, could possibly work in another. What kind of logic is that?

Which was exactly what 123 said (the last paragraph)

I agree with everything you say, but dude, straight from the article:

The proposals that are floating around the world vary a lot. But the basic idea is, no matter what you do, if you’re a resident — or in some cases, a citizen — you get a certain amount of money each month. And it’s completely unconditional: If you’re rich you get it, if you’re poor you get.

Now like they said, this could change as they mull over the varying proposals.

that's why I asked if anyone's actually read the law. I saw another article that said the exact opposite so now I don't know what the reality is

is that line referring to this specific version of the law or the other proposals floating around the world like a queef in a sauna

All I know is that everytime you post, I look at your user text, and think of this

It doesnt matter when you are just talking about the philosophy really. If we werent I would constantly be referencing the actual proposal.
