GAY OMG Socialism!

I recall America being pretty goddamned united after 9/11. It was a well known phenomenon for weeks, if not months afterward. It was even discussed on national media outlets multiple times.

Which is hilarious, because that should not be considered unusual.

I think people were told it that way and yes the media showed it, but as always with the media they aren't always right. Never said it was a huge population, but the US was not quite as united as people claimed it was. People were just too scared to admit the truth. And the media would ignore them anyway because what sells more? "United states united in the war on terrorism" or "Pacifists against what the president wants to do"

Or did you all forget our lovely president who stated "Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists"??

In case you forgot - yep those who didn't agree would be very likely to speak out since they would be "with the terrorists" I'm not sure why this is hard to understand. Those who felt united and felt the wonderful media propaganda would not realize how isolating comments like that would feel. So yeah united my ass....

arggg this stabbing myself in the eye isn't working!! :(

please do me a favor and try harder

You feel one way, I feel another. No one is right. So saying I'm wrong for feeling the way I did is annoying as fuck too ;)

I'm seriously trying to say that people may not have been as united as everyone thought.

Harder harder.... damn you don't get it do you?

QUIT TELLING ME I AM WRONG AND I'LL SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God damn you self righteous people who like to tell others they are wrong is annoying. Just admit someone didn't feel as you did and LET IT GO. I already said many did feel it, but it was VERY polarizing for many.

I'm talking about the footage and stories of strangers hugging and helping one another in the days and weeks after 9/11. Did the U.S. instantly transform into a loving paradise? No? I'm shocked. But there was a lot of togetherness that you don't normally see, and that simply cannot be denied. And the politicians stopped bickering about every little thing, too.

Remember the huge blackout in the northeast a short couple of years later? It was the same thing then. Strangers caring for strangers all over the place, and the lights were only off for like 2 days. It was great to see.

Whether you want to believe it or not, people unite in trying circumstances. It's in our genetic makeup. We need each other, and we band together out of necessity.

Is your wife posting as you now, because that was very unsarcastic.

Never said people don't help each other in times of need. I even have a friend with the Fire Deprtment that has gone to NY, CO, LA etc after all kinds of horrible things. That kind of uniting isn't specific to NYC and the attacks. It isn't always widespread among the country though. Only small groups help.

The uniting that I saw most was about how we are united in our war on terrorism. That's what the media portrayed here. Honestly that is about the time I stopped watching the news and switched to reading because it angered me so.

People do reach out and help others, I've never disagreed with that. However the idea of the US being united back then is bigger than hugging each other. At least that's how the media played it out here.

As if anyone here would say no to an extra $2,300, or whatever the number was, each month for doing absolutely nothing.
