Ontopic I feel terrible

i had a throat infection a few months ago - it was the worst thing i have ever had in my life, and i've had a lot of shit...

what worked for me was water and gargling aspirin solvated in it. mass amounts of painkillers also somewhat helped, but make sure they're NSAID and not analgesic.

I haven't had any painkillers besides standard Tylenol this week. I would have gladly taken them on Wednesday though.

the adictiveness of sleep aids is usually subjective - some people feel they can't get to sleep without them and will then stay on them... it's more of a personal need than actual dependency. i keep sleeping pills in my room if i ever have massive trouble getting to sleep.. but i may only take one once a month or so. they're pretty good for this reason.

i know i won't sleep the day before exams, so i'll try and sleep in the morning (before doing work) and again in the late afternoon. it fucking ruins your day, but is probably the only way to get back to a somewhat decent sleep cycle. i will need sleeping pills to fix that.

try novel hypnotic like Zopiclone in it's weakest form (7.5mg I think). half the pill is sufficient to get you over to sleep as it requires only a very small activity to work. it's an odd one though, as sometimes it works fantastically, sometimes it doesn't at all. the best way to work with it is to get into bed right after taking it, with no stimulus, but you should feel quite rested after even a little sleep. grogginess leaves quite quickly in me (i take a similar pill), but if i snooze after i have woke up initially i could probably sleep on. easiest way to do things is to get up the second you wake, and walk it off.

I have a scrip for Zopiclone 5mg, and a half one usually does the trick when I go through bouts of sleep deprivation.

I'm not calling the doc for help for the flu, I'm calling for help with sleep. I don't need an anti-biotic, I need sleep.

Great job at listening to the patient, dr polo.

Drives me crazy when my doc thinks he knows what's best and doesn't listen to me then prescribes the wrong stuff.

Sleep can be remedied. Control of disease/infection is more paramount.

Public health is more serious.

also i never figured you were the type to wikipedia your suspected illness then come in and insist you have it.

never thought you'd be like that at all.

nope, not once.

Maybe doctors are different over there, but here they act as if its a fast food chain and they get patients in and out like they are Indy cars. I've switch doctors three times since I've moved here because either A) they don't listen or B) they are trying to upsell me on some product (which I thought was oddddd)

Exactly. It is very much like making a pit stop. The last doctor visit I had she wrote me two prescriptions in a 5 minute consultation. Barely spoke to me at all..

Yeah, you can't simply make an accurate diagnosis that quickly. You need to know your patient. Bleh... silly holier than thou doctors.

In this internet age most people come in convinced that they have something anyway. It's very hard to tell them otherwise.

As for holier than thou... not really. It has more to do with pharmaceutical salesmen than thinking they're right all the time.

Also knocking out off-patent subscriptions keeps the money coming in regardless.

I'm with you - Most GP's are fucking useless and will prescribe more to meet treatment targets, even if it is novel use. Don't tar all with the one brush though.

Admittedly, I am not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure I have chronic fatigue associated with lack of sleep, again I'm not doctor, I'm just guessing. Total shot in the dark there. The terrible flu (hantavirus maybe, OMFG RUN) is made that much worse because I cannot properly rest long enough.

But sometimes, we are right.

My doctor kept telling me my headaches were a result of high blood pressure, even though my BP wasn't exactly that high.

Took 3 trips to FINALLY convince him it was otherwise. I already pretty much knew before the first time I saw him what it was. Not really because of the internet, but just because I'm one of the lucky to have a good body awareness...

Either way, he's not my GP anymore.

Fatigued? in all senses? My friend had it a while back. Going to a doctor with that will probably land you with anti-depressants rather than sleep aid. They'll immediately link it to cyclothymia..

Try the sleeping pill - My guess is the flu has seriously critstriked you and that might remedy it and is more preferable to the other rubbish they'd throw at you. Do you take a lot of caffeine during the day? Smoke?

no history of viagra i trust D..

You're right - but that's more of a misdiagnoses from symptoms rather than someone insisting they have radioactive, solar-powered arachnoid cysts because it causes the odd headache

lol. No on the v. It gets hard if the wind blows right.

Yeah, it was a misdiagnosis, even though, without being 'that' patient that says 'I have a brain tumor', instead, I was making sure I gave him enough detail on the symptoms so he could figure out 'okay, this isn't just a run of the mill headache'. I was very detailed with the symptoms, locations, complexity, and, you know, the simple little fact that sometimes the pain was so bad it would send me to my knees nearly crying.

Although, I will say, GPs really have to be fucking spectacularly smart to be able to catch everything. Their scope of general knowledge across the board I would say would eclipse the scope of knowledge a specialist might need.
