It hasn't been tested, so no one actually knows what it does in a crash except be expensive as fuck to replace torqued and cracked gigacastings
Repariability aside, gigacastings are cool as shit. You can come up with real optimized shapes with whatever thickness wherever you want, that are very rigid and very light and have an optimized "this amount of deformation = this force" crash characteric for decelerating a car all perfect in a crash.

But for a truck doin' truck things, hauling shit and plowing snow and generally getting beaten to fuck, hard to beat a ladder frame. A unibody frame is a suboptimal truss if you think about it.

Agreed.
It's an interesting application of tech, it's just unfortunate it makes the second most expensive purchase a person will see a disposable product if damaged.
