You realise that your post is completely nonsensical? You state that this guy's father wanted to "know God better" but he ended up reading Christopher Hitchens? Sounds like he was just confused about his own spirituality and read a lot of books. Just to let you know, "spiritual knowledge" doesn't just come from those who believe in God.
Also seriously, you're accusing atheists of "smug certainty"? Surely those words should be applied to religious believers, who, without any proof, believe in God?
